Separate what a pattern shows from what you think a material might be. Fabric Fiber Comparison Lab offers fabric observation worksheet activities that begin with printed patterns and extend to optional, adult-approved fabric samples. The focus is visible evidence, not identifying a fiber from a guess.

Inside Fabric Fiber Comparison Lab

Four original printed-pattern investigations and four safe fabric-observation pages separate visible evidence from material guesses. Includes a comparison record, word bank and checked diagram answers.

  • 8 pattern and fabric investigations.
  • 15 pages per edition, including guides and answer or support pages.
  • Suggested ages 6-10, with adult support.

The printed investigations have answer support. Real fabrics do not have one predetermined observation, and an optional magnifier does not turn this pack into a material-identification test. You can begin with paper and pencil alone.

How to use this pack

Start with the four printed-pattern investigations, looking carefully at the directions and arrangements shown. Discuss what can be supported by the picture and use the checked diagram answers to review the response.

For the four fabric-observation pages, an adult may select two clean, safe samples. Draw and describe what is visible without pulling the fabric apart. Use the word bank and comparison record to organize similarities and differences; leave a material identity uncertain when the evidence does not establish it.

All four printed-diagram answers plus guidance for open real observations.

Materials and safe use

Paper and a pencil. For optional real observations, use two clean fabric samples approved by an adult, with no loose fasteners or sharp edges. A magnifier or microscope is optional and must be used as its manual directs.

Do not cut or pull apart fabric, prepare glass slides or collect unknown fibers. Keep samples away from the face and mouth. Do not look at the sun or bright lights through a device. Stop if the view is unclear or the sample is unsafe.

Your files and printing choices

The download ZIP contains four PDF editions plus a README. Each has the same 15 pages. Choose ONE edition to print:

  • A4 Color (210 x 297 mm).
  • A4 Low Ink (210 x 297 mm).
  • US Letter Color (8.5 x 11 inches).
  • US Letter Low Ink (8.5 x 11 inches).

15 pages means pages per edition, not four times that amount of different content. Covers, guides and answer or support pages are included in the page count. The English-language PDFs are printable, not digitally fillable forms.

Open the ZIP, read the README and choose your paper size and color preference. Print selected pages portrait and single-sided. Start at actual size / 100%; check the preview and use fit to printable area if edges clip. You need a ZIP/PDF reader and printer access. Paper, ink and supplies are not included.

Household printing license

The purchasing household may print and reuse these pages with its own children. Files and printed pages may not be sold, redistributed, publicly uploaded, or used as a shared classroom or business resource. For use beyond one household, contact WonderKidsToy through the store before copying.
