Some instructions must come first, while others can change places. Algorithm Order Detective offers algorithm worksheets for kids that explore both ideas through paper sequencing puzzles. Children can point to a chosen order or explain it aloud rather than cutting cards or performing every described task.

Inside Algorithm Order Detective

Eight dependency-order puzzles, four missing-step puzzles and four flexible-order puzzles explore how instructions depend on earlier results. Includes a worked example, answer explanations and create-your-own algorithm page.

  • 16 sequencing puzzles.
  • 25 pages per edition, including guides and answer or support pages.
  • Suggested ages 5-9, with adult support.

The sixteen puzzles are reasoning tasks on paper, not an instruction to act out every situation. Adult reading support and spoken answers can keep the focus on order rather than writing effort.

How to use this pack

Use the worked example to look for a step that depends on an earlier result. In the eight dependency-order puzzles, talk through why one instruction must happen before another. Then consider the four missing-step puzzles and what a sequence needs to make sense.

The four flexible-order puzzles invite a different question: could more than one order work? Review the included answer explanations and both valid flexible orders. Finish with the create-your-own algorithm page when the child wants to set a sequence for someone else to consider.

Ordering answers, missing-step choices and both valid flexible orders included.

Materials and safe use

Paper and a pencil. These are paper reasoning tasks; children do not need to perform every described activity. Read cards aloud or let the child point to their chosen order.

Use invented names and stories, not real private details. Any optional physical activity uses safe materials chosen by an adult. Adults handle cutting if they choose to make loose cards, but cutting is not required.

Your files and printing choices

The download ZIP contains four PDF editions plus a README. Each has the same 25 pages. Choose ONE edition to print:

  • A4 Color (210 x 297 mm).
  • A4 Low Ink (210 x 297 mm).
  • US Letter Color (8.5 x 11 inches).
  • US Letter Low Ink (8.5 x 11 inches).

25 pages means pages per edition, not four times that amount of different content. Covers, guides and answer or support pages are included in the page count. The English-language PDFs are printable, not digitally fillable forms.

Open the ZIP, read the README and choose your paper size and color preference. Print selected pages portrait and single-sided. Start at actual size / 100%; check the preview and use fit to printable area if edges clip. You need a ZIP/PDF reader and printer access. Paper, ink and supplies are not included.

Household printing license

The purchasing household may print and reuse these pages with its own children. Files and printed pages may not be sold, redistributed, publicly uploaded, or used as a shared classroom or business resource. For use beyond one household, contact WonderKidsToy through the store before copying.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a physical product or a digital download?

It is a digital ZIP of printable PDFs and a README. No physical workbook, toy or supplies are shipped.

Which paper sizes are included, and must I print every file?

Choose one of the A4 or US Letter editions in Color or Low Ink. All four repeat the same content.

What supplies do we need?

Paper and a pencil. These are paper reasoning tasks; children do not need to perform every described activity. Read cards aloud or let the child point to their chosen order.

What ages is this for?

Suggested ages: 5-9. Ages are flexible guides, not assessments. Adult reading and discussion support are welcome.

Can I share the files or use them for a class?

No. The license covers the purchasing household and its own children, not sharing, resale, classroom or business use.

Do we have to cut out or perform the activities?

No. Work on the printed sheets and point or write. If loose cards are desired, an adult handles any cutting.
