Turn a marked gap into a design conversation on paper. Bridge the Gap Challenge Cards offers a bridge building STEM challenge approach based on drawings, not physical load tests. Children sketch crossings, consider more than one view and compare possible routes between the printed banks.

Inside Bridge the Gap Challenge Cards

Twelve crossing-design cards use marked banks and gaps of 2-4 grid spaces. Children sketch routes, consider side views and compare plans. Includes a worked paper route, two comparison records and caregiver checks.

  • 12 crossing design cards.
  • 19 pages per edition, including guides and answer or support pages.
  • Suggested ages 4-8, with adult support.

Open designs do not have one fixed solution. This pack is for paper planning and discussion, not building a real crossing, testing weights or moving furniture. Water and construction equipment are unnecessary.

How to use this pack

Look at the worked paper route, then choose one of the twelve crossing-design cards. Notice the marked banks and the gap of two to four grid spaces before sketching a route across the drawing.

Use the top-view and side-view prompts to think about the same idea in different ways. Compare plans using the two recording pages and the per-card success checks. Ask which stated requirement a drawing addresses rather than assuming a finished sketch proves that a real bridge would be safe.

Worked route and per-card success checks; open designs do not have one fixed solution.

Materials and safe use

Paper, a pencil and optional crayons. These are top-view and side-view design drawings. No physical construction set, water, weights or testing equipment is needed.

A drawn crossing does not establish structural strength, stability or safe load. Do not stand on, load, climb or water-test a model. Do not make real crossings or alter household furniture. Adults review any optional materials and follow their instructions.

Your files and printing choices

The download ZIP contains four PDF editions plus a README. Each has the same 19 pages. Choose ONE edition to print:

  • A4 Color (210 x 297 mm).
  • A4 Low Ink (210 x 297 mm).
  • US Letter Color (8.5 x 11 inches).
  • US Letter Low Ink (8.5 x 11 inches).

19 pages means pages per edition, not four times that amount of different content. Covers, guides and answer or support pages are included in the page count. The English-language PDFs are printable, not digitally fillable forms.

Open the ZIP, read the README and choose your paper size and color preference. Print selected pages portrait and single-sided. Start at actual size / 100%; check the preview and use fit to printable area if edges clip. You need a ZIP/PDF reader and printer access. Paper, ink and supplies are not included.

Household printing license

The purchasing household may print and reuse these pages with its own children. Files and printed pages may not be sold, redistributed, publicly uploaded, or used as a shared classroom or business resource. For use beyond one household, contact WonderKidsToy through the store before copying.

What supplies do we need?

Paper, a pencil and optional crayons. These are top-view and side-view design drawings. No physical construction set, water, weights or testing equipment is needed.

Can I share the files or use them for a class?
